Proj ect Information: .25 miles west of Center Street Viaduct, along Mahoning River Youngstown Mahoning County- Ohio Unknown. Demolished. Soon after its founding in the Republic Iron and Steel Company acquired the existing Haselton blast furnace and subsequently built four blast furnaces. These blast furnaces produced pig iron for the company's Bessemer (and later, open hearth) steel-making facility on the opposite side of the Mahoning River. Gray Fitzsimons, This documentation project of Republic Steel's blast furnace plant at its Youngstown works was undertaken in concert with a larger HAER study of the nation's major steel mills.

The assistance of Roger Robertson and Harry Young of the Stationary Steam Engine Society was invaluable in alerting HAER to the impending demolition of the site and obtaining access to the Youngstown works.
