“Henry's Catholic Church is a historic Catholic parish in the rural community of Harriettsville in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. Established for German settlers in the 1860s, it worships in a landmark church building constructed in the 1890s.”

When this property was proposed for the National Register, someone wrote the case for it: what the building is, and why it matters. That document is a federal record in the public domain. It is quoted below word for word, never summarised. The text was read off the scanned case file by machine, so the occasional stray character is the recogniser's and the 1970s typewriter's.

Description of the property

St.Henry's is a Gothic Revival church constructed of stone laid in random ashlar The church and Rectory are located just south of the Noble County village of Harriettsville, feature moulded partial returns, typical of the Greek Revival.On the west side of the facade with a gable roof. While not of high-style architectire per se, the Rectory does exhibit elevations of the church are defined by a series of buttresses which separate these windows of stained glass. The facade has a large, broad, lancet-arched window centered a transom into which is set a trefoil, typical of the style of architecture. The facade bay near the northwest corner.

The gable roof of the church, as well as that of the board, characteristic of the eclecticism of the late nineteenth century:Finally,the sawn ornament, and spindlework reminiscent of Eastlake architectural ornamentation._A1l - good The Rectory is a wood frame house, built on a foundation of coursed rubble and capped Rectory within sight of the still-operating general store.Sited on a hillside overlooking Duck spire.The tower is roughly divided into informal stages through the use of horizontal 8.

Statement of significance

(in one paragraph) Areas of Significance-Check and justify below made a mission of St.Henry's.In 1894,a tract of land was purchased from Phillip was selected to design the church.The cornerstone was laid in the spring of 1894 by law to the site free of charge by parisioners.Dedicated in the fall of 1894,the church _ archeology-prehistoric - community planning X architecture Bishop Watterson. The limestone was quarried from land east of the village and was hauled Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. St. Henry's parish apparently commissioned him to prepare the plans in the surmer of 1893, since Inland Architect carried the following notice construction, having plain pine interior finish, pews, stained glass.
